Formerly at 25 and 29 Custer Street were homes that dated back to the mid to late 1800’s. In 1964 they were demolished to make way for two new apartment buildings that are presently situated at 25 and 29 Custer Street.

Construction on the current buildings began in July of 1964. When completed in 1965 these apartments were classified as Gold Medallion Award Total Electric Homes. This Live Better Electrically Medallion meant that the local utility company (Boston Edison) had inspected and verified that each apartment met modern standards for wiring, appliances, heating and lighting. These medallions are still visible on most unit entry doors.

From 1965 to 1985 the apartments were rental units. In December of 1985 both buildings were converted into condominiums and named Custer Estate Condominium.
